Adult Cardiovascular Nursing Services emphasize continuity of care for patients with heart disease. Among the specialty units are:

Adult Medical/Surgical Nursing Services offer diverse and challenging opportunities in these units:

  • General Clinical Research Center
  • General Medicine, which provides care to patients with complex medical needs
  • Medical/Surgical Short Stay
  • Transplant, for patients undergoing kidney, pancreas, and liver transplantation

Adult Neuromusculoskeletal Nursing Services involve the Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, and Rehabilitation Units. Nurses participate in interdisciplinary teams on each specialty unit, caring for patients with a wide range of problems including:

  • Acute orthopaedic injuries/surgery
  • Brain tumor resections
  • Epilepsy
  • Interventional neurovascular procedures
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Stroke
  • Traumatic brain injury

Ambulatory Nursing Services provide outpatient care delivery to infants through adults. A variety of specialty clinics and outpatient procedures are performed in this area, with nurses working as members of an interdisciplinary care delivery team.

Critical Care Nursing Services provide state-of-the-art care to critically ill adults. The specialty areas are:

  • Kessler Family Burn/Trauma Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Burn/Trauma Step-down Unit
  • Cardiovascular ICU

  • Pulmonary Step-down Unit

Emergency Department (ED) Nursing is a specialized practice that serves more than 60,000 patients annually. The ED covers both Strong Memorial Hospital and the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong. As the regional referral center for trauma, the ED manages complex and clinically challenging patients in a fast-paced atmosphere.

James P. Wilmot Cancer Center (Oncology) offers an interdisciplinary approach to the management of cancer patients in inpatient and outpatient settings. Nurses deliver care in the Surgical Oncology/Urology/Hospice Unit, the Adult Oncology Unit and in three outpatient areas:

  • Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit
  • Outpatient Hematology-Oncology Clinic and Treatment Center
  • Radiation Oncology

Obstetric & Gynecologic (OB/GYN) nurses provide direct care to antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum women. Patients with complex pregnancies and complex births also are treated in this center. All units provide family-centered care, with a focus on patient and family teaching:

  • Birth Center/Newborn Nursery, for low- to moderate-risk patients
  • Labor & Delivery, with specialized services for high-risk patients
  • Perinatal/GYN

Pediatric Nursing — Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong offers care to children from premature infants to adolescents who are admitted for a variety of illnesses and injuries that often cannot be treated elsewhere in the region. Units are:

  • Neonatal Intensive Care
