Career awareness workshops at Strong Memorial and Highland Hospitals can help you learn about nursing careers.

The sessions may highlight different clinical areas and include lectures and hands-on activities covering basic nursing skills.

Internships

We support high school-initiated internships for students interested in a nursing career. Our staff will work with you and your guidance counselor or teacher to set up just the right experience to meet your learning needs.

Volunteer Opportunities

Student volunteers can be found throughout Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital each day, making a difference for patients and their families. Our volunteers:

  • Escort patients
  • Deliver flowers
  • Deliver videos and reading materials to patients
  • Work in our gift shops
  • Give directions to visitors, and much more

The Friends of Strong volunteer program offers more than 100 job descriptions. Highland Hospital volunteer services offer about 50. So there's something sure to match your interests.

We require volunteers to be:

  • At least 14 years old at Strong Memorial Hospital; 15 at Highland Hospital
  • Fluent in English
  • Able to work independently
  • Comfortable around patients, their families and visitors

For Highland Hospital, call (585) 341-6759 to schedule an appointment. You will need to complete three forms. Download, print, and bring these completed forms to your appointment.

Visits to Your School

Our enthusiastic nurses would love to visit your middle school, high school or college to talk about nursing careers and how to prepare for them. The presentations can be tailored to different age groups.
