Resources for Patients and Families
The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) is the largest multidisciplinary, multiprofessional organization dedicated to ensuring excellence and consistency in the practice of critical care medicine. Their web site includes a section for patient and family resources.
ICU-USA.com is the official patient and family web site of the SCCM. Their web site includes a tour of an ICU room.
The STARBRIGHT Family Room is an online community that provides information and support to help parents care for their seriously ill child. Created by the STARBRIGHT Foundation, with a team of parents and healthcare professionals, the site features practical tips, daily solutions and inspiring personal stories from other parents who have “been there.”
Children's Hospice International is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 to provide all-inclusive healthcare for children with life-threatening conditions and their families from time of diagnosis, with hope for a cure, through bereavement counseling if the cure is not attained. They say, "A parent should never have to choose between hospice care and hope for a cure."
