Pediatric Cleft and Craniofacial Center
Edna Carter Young, Ph.D.
Experience.
Edna Carter Young, Ph.D., has been working with children and adults
with cleft lip and palate, and other craniofacial differences,
all of her career. She has been an active member of the American
Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Association since 1975. She tells her
patients, and their parents, that her primary interest in speech
pathology is the work she does with individuals who have speech
problems related to cleft and other orofacial differences. Patients
quickly come to realize the broad range of her skills. She combines
a proven track record of excellence in clinical outcomes with
compassion and understanding in the delivery of patient care.
Dr. Young has been a speech pathologist on multidisciplinary cleft/craniofacial teams in three states, and she has collaborated with teams in Russia and Sweden. Dr. Young begins her work with newborns that have cleft palate in order to help them to overcome eating and swallowing problems. She follows their speech and language development from the time they are toddlers until they no longer need speech therapy. Continuity of care and treatment is essential. To see these children grow into happy and successful communicators is enormously satisfying to her, both personally and professionally.
