I am interested in the ability to create automated classification systems for text based data. In healthcare and life sciences we generate significant amounts of text data. This text data is generated in all of our core missions of patient care, education and research and includes documents such as clinical notes, research manuscripts, and education presentations. However, the unstructured format of text data does not readily lend itself to information extraction. Therefore, I am interested in evaluating the ability to create systems that automatically classify unstructured text documents by subject area.
