Dr. Mapstone is a clinical neuropsychologist who specializes in characterization and differential diagnosis of dementia in the elderly. He also evaluates patients with other disorders affecting memory and attention.

Research

Dr. Mapstone’s primary research involves spatial disorientation and spatial attention in normal elderly and in Alzheimer’s disease. He is funded by a Career Development Award from the National Institute on Aging. Other current research projects focus on working memory and frontal-subcortical circuits, and clinical trials in dementia.

Academic Activity

Dr. Mapstone lectures on topics of clinical neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience to neurology and psychiatry residents, fellows, and medical students in the School of Medicine and to undergraduate students in the department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. He is also a preceptor for clinical neuropsychology post-doctoral fellows.
