Urology Residency Training Program
University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
Program Outline—Fourth Year (PGY-5)
The fourth year (PYG-5) urologic resident has rotations at two affiliated teaching institutions - Rochester General Hospital (RGH) and Unity Hospital (UH). During his/her 6 months at RGH, the resident assists the chief resident (PGY-6) in managing an inpatient service averaging 10-20 patients daily and more than 600 major operations annually. The resident gains substantial experience in performing endoscopic procedures during this rotation. Once a week, outpatients who are the resident’s responsibility are seen in a private practice clinic setting. Three two-month rotations on the urologic service at Unity Hospital are provided to increase clinical exposure and broaden experiences. The resident at Unity Hospital is responsible for following the activities of the entire urology service and is involved in all major operations. The PGY-5 resident also participates in the weekly urology outpatient clinic, and also sees patients on a scheduled basis in a private office with the attending urologist.
