Urology
Urology Residency Training Program
University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
Program Outline—Second Year (PGY-3)
During the second year (PGY-3) of specialization, the urology resident learns office and operative urology. Each resident participates in ward rounds; alternates on call from home approximately every third night; attends all urologic seminars/conferences including weekly seminars, journal reviews, Grand Rounds, and the monthly Quality Assurance meeting.
A resident clinic with attending supervision, the Dr. Frank clinic, provides additional exposure to the office environment with diagnostic testing and a cystoscopy suite available in the ambulatory clinic. Each PGY-3 resident holds his or her clinic on alternating Wednesday afternoons. A dedicated pediatric urology rotation with an emphasis on clinic experience is also performed during this year.
In the operating room, the resident is an active member of the urologic team in the four procedural operating rooms (open urologic surgery, robotics/laparoscopy, endoscopy, and ESWL) and performs surgeries in these areas commensurate with ability.
