General Fitness, Health and Image

Being healthy is about physical health, of course, but it's more than that too. It's about keeping a positive body image, a healthy mental attitude and about staying fit–it's about having the information you need to make healthy choices and knowing all you can about prevention. We offer you some advice and lots of useful links that will guide you in your quest to lead an all-around healthier life.

Prevention and Screenings

  • Find out what screenings and measures you should take by checking out the "Believe in Better Health Guidelines" for your age group.
  • Cholesterol–Some is good, some is bad...it can be a little confusing, but it's important to know what it is and how it can affect your health. These cholesterol screening tools can help you figure it all out.
  • Osteoporosis–Osteoporosis is a serious condition that can cause bones to thin and weaken, but the good news is that there is a lot you can do to prevent it.
  • Heart Health–According to The American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke affect one out of every two women. It's the number one killer of both men and women. These facts are frightening, to say the least, but they prove the point that women need to be concerned and knowledgeable about heart health.

Diet and Nutrition

  • Nutrition–"You are what you eat." We don't know who coined the phrase, but you can't argue with the facts: good nutrition is one of the foundations of good health.
  • Eating Disorders–Eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia, and binge eating are serious conditions that are often caused by underlying factors such as trauma, depression, emotional pain and low self-esteem. It's important to be able to recognize the symptoms, so if you or someone you know has a problem you can get help fast.

Fitness

  • Women and Sports–Female athletes need to take some special precautions to reduce their risk of injury.
